Trends from Copenhagen

Often the seat of the most direction defining trends in womenswear, Copenhagen this season served up a blend of romantic draping, 1980s silhouettes and underwear-as-outerwear influences in terms of the oodles of lace on show. Leather and velvet came through, confirming the message from Pure in London that texture looks to be an important factor in autumn 10. And with that in mind, there is no let up in the tidal wave of sequins and glittery embellishment. Unsurprisingly, new trouser shapes emerged – this is after all the land of the lean and leggy – and while harem pants and peglegs are still in the mix, the luxe-sports jogger/dance pant versions have taken over; knitted leggings and motorcycle pants offer more silhouette defining structure. Knitwear looks strong too, with chunky and intarsia styles coming through, meanwhile on tops, tunics and soft cocoon shapes came with ruching, draping and sequin embellished looks on silks, washed silks and jersey.
