Autumn 10 Catwalk Spotlight: Burberry Prorsum

Unlike the kaleidoscope of fashion categories available to women, men's fashion is severely limited. Think about it: jeans, shirts, trousers, jerseys, knits and tailoring, and that's about it. The only real option that provides fellas with a little scope for sartorial expression is outerwear and from the looks of his autumn 10 presentation for Burberry, creative director Christopher Bailey knows it.
At the brand's Milan runway show, Bailey payed homage to some of the most enduring archive-inspired men's outerwear styles on record. From belted, double breasted US car-coats and cropped regimental tailoring to large-shouldered peacoats and oversized teddy-bear coats the 15 minute show felt like a masterclass in 20th Century men's coating. Particularly impressive was the way Bailey adeptly subverted classic silhouettes, pulling at proportions here and updating fabrics there. His interpretation of the classic Irvin WWII sheepskin bomber reworked with a grey canvas outer articulated perfectly Burberry's ability to bring classic menswear styles bang up to date.Source URL: http://icip2idayusof.blogspot.com/2010/02/autumn-10-catwalk-spotlight-burberry.html
