Copenhagen Fashion Week: Plasti-chic watches

The thing with Scandinavian brands is that while they have a commercial look, the price points are not exactly the lowest. So the last thing you would expect to find is an entry-level chunk of sheer unadulterated fashion fun. But that’s exactly what Plasti-chic is. A range of colourful rubber watches from Italy, these come in display cases of 19 colours – or graphic styles – and are individually sold in plastic test tubes. There are three banks of 19 to choose from: a rainbow of brights, one of neons and a third with graphic slogans or Swarovski crystals including one that is completely covered in crystals where the watch-face should be. Cheekily enough the style is called Timeless. The saleswoman in Copenhagen claimed these sell in fashion stores, jewellers, shoe shops and basically pretty much anywhere in Italy. She even says that Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi has been seen wearing one. Is that a good thing? Well, she thought so.
Anyway, those prices. The wholesale cost per unit quoted here was between £6 and £9, with retail tickets between £15 and £20.
