Kicking off the Autumn 2010 Buying Season

Fashion Buyer UK returns today after a restful break with all radars tuned into the forthcoming buying season.
While most buyers will have already blocked their diaries full of showroom appointments, the autumn 2010 season officially kicks off next week with premium menswear exhibition Pitti Uomo in Florence, Italy. Over the course of four days over 22,000 buyers from China to Canada will descend on the medieval surrounds of the Fortezza da Basso, which each season provides a dramatic backdrop for 918 of the world's most prestigious and innovative menswear.
This season, buyers will be treated to a new layout in the exhibition's main pavilion designed by reputed architect Patricia Urquiola. The lower level of the building, formally populated by Italy's heavyweight tailoring brands, will be converted into a market-like environment of open stands designed to create a more easy dialogue between buyers and brands. Sitting alongside these stands will be a flurry of pop-up stores  dedicated to fashion, accessories and  complementary products including directional homewares.
Running alongside the menswear exhibition will be the Pitti W_Woman Precollection event, the highlight of which will certainly be the invitation of Brit designer Giles Deacon as special guest to the show. On the evening of Thursday 14 January Giles will present his autumn 2010 pre-collection at the Sesto Fiorentino headquarters of Richard Ginori 1735, celebrated Italian makers of fine porcelain.
But let's face it, the exhibition is only part of Pitti Uomo's charm, and many visitors will be just as interested watching the parades of coquettish Italian buyers as they will be pursuing the latest menswear looks. As well as a plentiful supply of flamboyantly-attired trendsetters you can be sure there will be some new branded fad that will have the rest of Italy's fashion sheep following in earnest. Over the years we have watched as herds of buyers have slavishly bought into easily identifiable styles (largely driven by sunglasses and outerwear) from Belstaff and Refrigiwear through to Rayban and Persol.
Fashion Buyer looks forward to seeing what new trends will be served up at Pitti Uomo from 12-15 January and will be reporting from Florence daily with detailed updates on the most significant menswear trends for UK buyers.Source URL: http://icip2idayusof.blogspot.com/2010/01/kicking-off-autumn-2010-buying-season.html
