New York Fashion Week: Marios Schwab's 70s Halston party

Halston was one the most eagerly awaited shows on the New York schedule this week, mostly because it saw the debut of the rebooted house’s new designer, the much loved Marios Schwab. Like Marc Jacobs’ show later in the day, this was a none-too-subtle remix of 1970s disco-down pool party, Studio 54 chicks. And heck, it was pretty. Flicking their Jerry Hall straight hair, the models swished and sashayed in strapless summer dresses. Unlike the 70s originals though, these were gathered and pleated and ruched to form new drapes.

Tulip skirts and bow tie neck lines came in Seurat-like dabs of colour, while nudes and beiges appeared alongside blue, gold and animal prints in smoky browns. Look-at-me red silk, glamorous black and virginal whites were also important showing no lack of confidence from Schwab’s variously halter-necked, ruffled and occasionally tailored summer. Will the summer be long enough to wear them all? Let’s hope so.Source URL: http://icip2idayusof.blogspot.com/2010/09/new-york-fashion-week-marios-schwab-70s.html
