There's little denying that here in the UK, Ralph Lauren is definitely back on the money. The autumn 2010 UK launch of RRL, Lauren's premium Americana menswear brand, has just about every premium buyer on the men's side salivating uncontrollably, buyers will be fighting to get a reservation at Lauren's new Paris restaurant come Fashion Week, while on the women's side the ready-to-wear collection goes from strength to strength.
Yesterday's presentation on the New York catwalk served as an opportunity for Lauren to underline his fascination with clothing inspired by the West although there was nothing wild to be found on this runway. Instead, the spring 10 presentation showed a refined and contemporary vision of prairie girl chic. Set largely against a white backdrop with occasional references to suede, blush pink and alabaster, the collection was more suited to city girls than on the range.
Fringing, lace trims and Navajo blanket patterns helped create a look that will be familiar to Lauren archivists. More sophisticated were his wrap-front jumpsuits, bohemian maxis, heavily draped floor-length skirts swagged at the hip, and sleeveless cocktail dresses.
