Always a sucker for romance, Valentino’s spring 10 offer was an ethereal fairy tale of a collection. Drenched in softly draped silks or ruffled wispy organza, Valentino’s mini-dress silhouettes walked confidently in the footsteps of the brand’s forefather. Teased into structured shapes with an illusion of fluidity the collection was the most accomplished yet from designers Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri. Foil-encrusted floral-patterns provided surface interest to gauzy, diaphanous layers alongside asymmetrically-positioned layers of densely-constructed ruffles in tulle. Cuffed shorts, fit-and-flare mini dresses and Grecian shapes provided younger daywear options, with intricately layered all-over ruffles and petal-like cut-outs on leather jackets serving to soften traditionally tough biker styles.
