Paris Fashion Week: Louis Vuitton

Those buyers distracted long enough to look beyond the lollipop afros were treated to an uncharacteristically street-savvy compendium of young fashion looks repackaged for a luxe customer. An American outdoors look set the scene with gingham shirts combined with soft blush-coloured checked mini parkas and shorts. Considering the hair it was only appropriate that Vuitton’s designer Marc Jacobs settle into some 1970s inspired printed shifts, replete with hippy-chick tassled handbags and furry sandals, before bringing the collection up to date with modern tailoring shapes featuring squared-off lapels falling through the length of his cropped jackets. Denim too had to make an appearance with tightly pleated schoolgirl skirts in panels of contrast-wash denims looking relatively tame alongside the barrage of clashing retro prints which dazzled on dresses. The third big look at Vuitton for spring 10 drew on military reference points, updating collarless boucle tailoring by adding army green patch pockets, which it combined with pleated pantaloon pants in the same shade. A kaleidoscopic mix of themes which may confuse everyone but Louis Vuitton’s youngest Gossip Girl-friendly clientele.
