Handmade US footwear afficionado Yuketen has released a new lookbook crammed with tasty new shots of this season's merchandise. As well as the ever-fetching Yuketen Hunt Boots look out for the super-tasty retro reefer coats fashioned from Hudson Bay blankets.
In the US, Hudson Bay Blankets are revered much like we Brits treasure a vintage Burberry trench, with some blankets passed down from one generation to the next. Manufactured in Scotland solely for export to the States, the Hudson Bay Company originally developed the distinctive arctic white blankets specifically to trade with native American tribes who favoured the blankets not only for there hardwearing and insulating properties but also their ability to blend into the oft snowy backdrop of the Great Outdoors. See the picture below not only for the distinctive labelling but also Hudson Bay Blanket's iconic green, red, yellow and black banding, which along with the four black tipping marks, which appear along the outside edge, combined to give the product its monicker as the Four Point blanket.
Up until the 1950s the blankets were also used for sports coats and importantly were used for the now iconic reefer jacket silhouette. Back at the January edition of Pitti Uomo both Japanese brand Haversack and Monitaly, the vintage-inspired apparel brand founded by Yuketen owner Yuki Matsuda, showed modern interpretations of Hudson Bay blanket coats for autumn 2010. The only UK retailer known to be stocking the Monitaly version is Sarah Coggles which has the coat available to view and purchase online at www.coggles.com priced at £575.
Anyway, history lesson over, enjoy the shots below taken from Yuketen's autumn 2010 lookbook.
It's almost enough to send the Fashion Buyer team traipsing off to the Yukon for a slice of the Grizzly Adams life. Well, almost.Source URL: http://icip2idayusof.blogspot.com/2010/10/yuketen-releases-new-autumn-winter-2010.html
