In the traditionally fashion forward halls including Touch and L'Altro Uomo, trends such as chambray, madras checks, utility khakis, and laundered Oxford shirts, all of which looked so thrilling and new 12 months ago, appeared less exciting this time around.
The new preppy aesthetic driven by the Japanese interpretation of vintage workwear and Ivy League Americana may still have plenty of commerical mileage on the shopfloor but here at Pitti it came across more as a Xerox copy of what we saw last year.
The key look is still defined by headline brand such as Gitman Vintage, Haversack, Engineered Garments, Nigel Cabourn, Yuketen, Post Overalls, Monitaly, YMC, and M. The best buyers are only now beginning to back this look with budget so we can expect this trend to shape UK menswear for some time yet.
The UK womenswear market may be driven by fast-fashion and constant change, but few fellas hanker after such aggressive changes in trend, prefering instead to back slow-burners which provide a more seasonless look. This is perfect news for indie buyers who are only now gravitating towards, and selling the merits of, a menswear trend which delivers on quality-led product, rich in detail, heritage and story.
New additions to this look for spring 2011 include contemporary interpretations of lightweight hooded parka jackets, canvas espadrilles and rubber-soled Derby shoes.
Fashion Buyer will present a more detailed run-through of each of the key trends over the forthcoming days. Pictured from top-to-bottom: Haver Sack; Gitman Vintage, People Of Shibuya; Mark McNairy.Source URL: http://icip2idayusof.blogspot.com/2010/06/pitti-uomo-day-two-trends-update.html
