Pitti Profile: Max Wastler, sales manager and Chris Olberding, vice president, Gitman Vintage

Sought after and on-trend, the US shirt brand Gitman Vintage is part of the Gitman Bros company and one of the key stop-offs in the trend-led L'Altro Uomo hall at Pitti Uomo. With 125 accounts spread across 20 countries, the brand has a tight customer base but is an influential player in terms of current trends. Max and Chris talk Fashion Buyer through the spring 11 collection

WHAT STYLES ARE YOUR CUSTOMERS RESPONDING TO MOST WARMLY HERE AT PITTI?
The range of madras checks has been popular and the organic versions have all gone well too in stripes and checks. Like all our styles they are washed and dried in a Maytag machine in the US for that authentic appeal.

YOU HAVE SOME OTHER NEW LOOKS TOO
Yes, we are hoping the range of pastels will be big next summer. We have contrast panelled gingham versions and washed down pastels in blue, pink and lemon, all pulling on a kind of 1980s look. There are new prints in the range too, like the bamboo tree and we have a ridiculous, fun camo print with bright orange ribboning inside the collar.

THERE’S ANOTHER NEW RAIL HERE TOO
The womenswear? Yes, the Gitman Sister range is having a proper launch now – we kicked it off with a sort of soft launch for Fall but now have a full range of shirts, blouses and button downs.

YOU’RE RIGHTLY FAMOUS FOR YOUR SHIRTS AT GITMAN VINTAGE BUT DO I SPY TROUSERS HERE TOO NOW?
Yeah, we now have a range of pants and shorts, created using shirt fabrics, be they oxford cottons or madras checks. This is a summer range so these are all lightweight and easy to wear. We’ve got some heavier fabrics for the autumn season like the khaki canvas.

HOW DID THE RANGE COME ABOUT?
We just spotted one of our madras prints on a Corbin pant and it started us thinking.

    CORBIN?
Corbin is a pant manufacturer owned by our parent company, Individual Apparel Group, which also owns Oxford Clothes. It’s all American, and all about US-based manufacturing.

WELL, SHIRT FABRICS ON TROUSERS IS A GREAT IDEA
Right! Isn’t it? You ask why people don’t do it already, huh?Source URL: http://icip2idayusof.blogspot.com/2010/06/pitti-profile-max-wastler-sales-manager.html
