Musto, the UK brand rooted in nautical and equestrian lifestyles, has added another collection to its portfolio. Called 064, the range is a nautically inspired capsule of polos, fleeces, rugby tops, trousers and accessories. Its launch season is Spring 10 but yes, retailers can still buy into the range.
The name of the collection references 1964, the year in which brand founder Keith Musto won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the Flying Dutchman class sailing. That, by the way, means quick dinghies – the sort of small boats that sailors lean right out on.
Nautically fuelled, the brand has a preppy feel with a classic spectrum anchored to navy, maroon, white and pink. 064 is used as a recurring motif in the designs as patches, prints and embroidery alongside techy-inspired nautical graphics like co-ordinates, radar symbols and more hand-drawn-style illustrated boats. Zigzag sail stitching adds to the nautical feel. There are 48 men’s pieces in the range and about 10 in the women’s.
For an indicator of wholesale prices, in womenwear rugby tops are £22.50 and a white stretch pique sweat is £35; in menswear it is £40 for a mesh lined gilet and £27.50 for a cut and sew rugby top. The range sits alongside the Sailing Casual range, which is a blend of technical pieces and lifestyle fashion that includes mesh-lined jackets, chinos and crew trousers, fast dry skirts, classic shorts, striped rugby shirts, fleeces, knits, gilets, shirts, T-shirts and polos. The accessories range includes holdalls, baseball caps, and woven canvas belts.
