As the spring 11 press previews get fully into swing Fashion Buyer is bracing itself for a fortnight or so of scrutinising the trends and looks backed by the UK's major high street players and their branded counterparts. And if we have to, we'll force a cocktail or two down along the way - it's all part of the work, don't you know.
We are kicking things off with Next. And it's clear that the high street giant is continuing to successfully ramp up its self appointed task of bringing trends to the masses, something it's been doing with added verve for the last two years after realising that the UK punter had got super savvy in terms of those trends and super promiscuous in terms of where they would find them.

In menswear Next is delivering suiting sharp enough to make Mad Men’s Don Draper head for the drinks cabinet, yet the cuts are distinctly rooted to this side of the Atlantic. Classically tailored along with some quintessentially British styling touches, there is a moddish cut to these cleverly darted pieces with slim lapels and contrast jets on the pockets. All pieces are labeled with ‘Styled in the United Kingdom’ and have a nice little crown emblem to boot. Yep, Next is definitely celebrating our homegrown British style.
The casualwear rimmed the Atlantic in slightly more explorative mode, with Canadian plaids, chambray shirts and flat caps teamed with chinos and boots. A more euro freindly look inspired smart casual separates with trousers, striped tops and blazers intorduing a grown up tonal chic.In womenswear, spring 11 will see the launch of Urban Jungle, a new womenswear sub-brand. Delivering exactly what it promises Urban Jungle will take you from day to night, perfect for romping your way through any city. Offering dresses, trousers, loose fit tops in abstract inspired jungle prints, and most notable of all – a black and white print jumpsuit.
In terms of trends, Next hasn’t missed a beat. Picking up on the white runway explosion a range of dreamy, floaty and cool white tops, dresses and trousers have been developed. Drawing on the minimalist mood of the season Next’s office wear is clean in form, neatly tailored and neutral in colour palette. A standout is the collarless camel lightweight coat. The perfect transition from winter to spring.
Spring 11 is looking to be a great season for the retailer. Fashion Buyer genuinely can’t wait to see what’s Next.Source URL: http://icip2idayusof.blogspot.com/2010/11/next-spring-11-preview.html
