Zanacco rewrites the rulebook on men's footwear

Jasmine Zanacco's destiny to create among the world's finest handmade footwear was predetermined from the day she was born. Her hometown, Vigevano, a small Italian town outside Milan, is Italy's answer to Northampton. Populated by artisan footwear makers and shoe factories, the streets of Vigevano are as familiar to premium players such as Salvatore Ferragamo and Berluti as Bond Street and Fifth Avenue.

After learning a lifetime's footwear expertise from her father who ran shoe factories across Asia and Italy, Jasmine has found a new home in London which has served as the launchpad for her men's footwear brand Zanacco.

Characterised by sumptuous vegetable-dyed Tuscan leathers with a rich depth, subtle variations of colour and grain, Zanacco's hand constructed shoes are far removed from the volume-led exploits of some its peers. "I returned to my hometown last year and was deeply moved by the disastrous state the footwear manufacturing base was in," Jasmine explains. "Many of the artisan skills are dying out as many premium footwear brands are moving production to the Far East. When I say Zanacco's shoes are Made In Italy, it means that the leathers are Tuscan, the tanneries we use are in Bologna, and the shoes are constructed in Vigevano.

The classic backdrop of the range is given a younger edge by a focused collection of sophisticated sneakers. These high-top looks have an eco sole made using biodegradable oils, an insole of cocos fibres mixed with natural latex which combine to provide a natural temperature control. Uppers are constructed from a mixture of vegetable tanned leather and organic wool bonded by a water based glue.

Zanacco is certainly worth an inspection for any premium-led buyer looking for a quietly considered but thoroughly modern foil to both superior tailoring and sophisticated sportswear.

Wholesale prices range from £165 to £195 for the classic range, with sneakers weighing in from £102 to £105.
