Thank the likes of Burberry Prorsum and Balenciaga for the added yards of fabric which pleat, tuck and fold on dresses and skirts. And while draped looks were the centre of gravity for dress trends, orbiting close by was a raft of ruched items from clingy dresses where multi-ruched layers added texture to gentle tucked areas that added an element of shape to simple shift dresses. While a lot of these looks have hit the high street already – check out H&M for an example of the multi ruched dress with an exposed zip – it was good to see brands rolling out more sophisticated versions for the contemporary market.
