There's something about arriving at Bread & Butter with the sun's blazing, old faces looking tanned and friendly, and the air hanging heavy with anticipation, which simply cannot fail to get you excited about the season ahead.
We're just two hours into day one of the three day fashion fiesta. And, while the show is feeding partly from World Cup fever and the impending Germany vs Spain stand-off, the look on brand managers' faces belies a deeper nervousness. Impending price increases due to rising cotton costs and VAT hikes has meant that every brand under the Berlin sun is eagerly trying to gauge whether their own price increases are in line with their competitors'. One thing remains certain, prices are heading north, and across the board.
On the product front early indicators show a continuing support for double denim, more interest in lighter washes and scientific treatments, and an emphasis on carrot legged fits for the fellas and sexier directional fits for women alongside slimmer boyfriend shapes.
Other looks taking the spotlight for spring 11 include sun-bleached army fatigues, shirt dresses, coloured chinos, checks, chambrays, tasselled scarves, and a reappraisal of nautical and preppy themes.
Keep watching over the next three days and beyond for Fashion Buyer's updates on the people and product news from Berlin.Source URL: http://icip2idayusof.blogspot.com/2010/07/sizzlin-start-to-bread-butter-berlin.html
