Pitti Uomo AW '11 brand profile: Nigel Cabourn

Nigel Cabourn is enjoying his moment. Hosting the busiest stand, with its jostling throng of buyers spilling over into the central passageway blocking the Arsenale's main artery, Nigel Cabourn looked relaxed and pleased as punch. Who can blame him? His brand is now stocked in a roll-call of retailers which reads like fashion's hall of fame and here at Pitti Uomo he unveiled among his widest and most ambitious efforts to date.

Chunky roll-neck knits (designed apparently to be worn inside-out and back-to front), heavy flannel work shirts, peaked lapel Harris tweed hunting jackets and a shearling hooded aviator coat which weighed more than a fully grown bloodhound were among the highlights. But the real product winners this season are the pieces which Cabourn has created in collaboration with US outerwear specialist Eddie Bauer and British hunting bag stalwart Brady.

The Eddie Bauer collaborative collection is based on a diamond-pattern quilted jacket with a fur-lined hooded collar (for reference, think Run DMC with a little more colour). The Brady partnership finds Cabourn elongating Brady's bag shapes and adding contrast panels of Fox Brothers-sourced wools.
With so much product to examine, next time Mr Cabourn may we suggest perhaps a larger stand.
    Wholesale prices range from £80-800.
