M&S autumn 2010 trends: Military outerwear

This sharply tailored double-breasted look was most recently introduced by Ralph Lauren last winter before being popularised by Cheryl Cole in her 'Fight For This Love' video. Now, the high street has trained its trend-sights on the look with everyone from Topshop and New Look through to River Island and Marks & Spencer including regimental coats as part of their winter mix.
Shoppers can't seem to get enough of the military theme and Fashion Buyer has no doubt that this style is the key coat shape for autumn for the 25-plus market.

The WWII inspired sheepskin flight jackets revealed by Burberry Prorsum for autumn 2010 are another key autumn 2010 item and M&S's take on the look was less copycat than most of its peers. Instead, Marks & Spencer's was cut with an older and more sophisticated shopper in mind with its oversized fold-over collar and  stud-fastening waistband creating an innovative take on the trend. Also worth noting is the ruffled use of lace which with its romantic personality works as a clever tool to help soften the masculine military outerwear trend.
