Fashion's next protege

Fashionbuyer always has its ear to the ground (eyes peeled and nose in the air too) in the hopes of finding something new and genuinely compelling. Today we heard a whisper… well, a bit more than a whisper actually.
The hunt for homegrown design talent is endless and two young entrepreneurial Fashion Buying students have made it their business to champion the undiscovered hero. Protégé Fashion is an innovative project for the next big fashion design thing to showcase their unseen talent. A panel of industry experts will select two graduates each season.
This season, those industry judges include include Topshop’s accessory designer Victoria Makin, New Look’s Senior Accessories Buyer, Philippa Meighan and Senior Lecturer of Fashion Buying at Manchester Metropolitan University Maria Malone. (Let’s hope they can get Tyra in to announce the winner). The chosen one will be given the opportunity to design their own capsule collection. A key ethos for Protégé is not operating under another’s label.
Never mind the next design genius, fashion’s next Protégés seem to be company founders Georgie Gough and Mikey Kenny. These passionate Manchester based Fashion Buying students could give Alan Sugar a run for his money. Watch this blog for the unveiling of Protégé’s winner soon. You may just be stocking their handbags next spring.
